The Owner:
I had always been torn between wanting to spend all my time with dogs and wanting to help people in need. These were both things that I always seemed to have a knack for, but it had never really occurred to me to combine them both. Feeling like a career in “being with dogs all day” was an unrealistic dream, I did the next best thing and got a Diploma in Special Care Counselling (working with individuals with special needs).
Along the way, I rescued a dog named Bailey who had severe separation anxiety. Using some of the techniques I learned in school I began to rehabilitate her, but always seemed just short of something to execute the process successfully, usually ending back at square one.
Searching rather desperately for my last hope, I contacted a man named Chris Papakostas, owner of Seirios K9 Academy. In the middle of our consultation, while explaining my journey with Bailey, he simply looked at me and said “Clearly you’re smart and you know what you’re doing. Have you ever considered becoming a professional dog trainer yourself?” There was no stopping me after that.
